Looks like spring has finally sprung! Now is the time to do a couple basic plumbing inspections to be sure your plumbing system has survived the winter in good shape:
- Visually inspect all supply hoses on your washing machine, garbage disposal and ice maker looking for leaks or bulges. Be sure to replace any hose over 10 years old or hoses showing signs of deterioration. We always recommend using stainless steel hoses, they are much stronger than rubber and are less likely to burst than rubber hoses.
- Visually inspect faucets above and below; look for money wasting, property damaging drips. Stopping those drips will save you money and prevent water damage to your home or business.
- Visually inspect your water heater; look for leaks and listen for any strange sounds (like knocking when the heater is running). Also confirm that the water heater temperature is set no higher than 120 degrees F, this will help prevent scalding and lower your energy usage. Be sure to keep the area around the water heater clear of flammables to avoid a fire hazard.
- Visually inspect all of your outdoor faucets before and after you turn the water back on; pipes that have been damaged by freezing may not show signs of damage until you turn on the water, so always check for leaks before & after the water is turned on!
