A client called us the other day in a panic; seems she was out shopping and left her teenage daughter home alone. Her daughter called and calmly told her mom that there was water pouring out of the ceiling asking “what do I do Mom?”
The simple answer: Any teenager, or adult you trust should know where the whole house water shut off is, and they should know how to use that “shut off” to turn off all the incoming water to the house. Unfortunately for our client, neither she nor her daughter knew what a whole house shut off was, much less where it was located. By the time Mom got her husband home and he turned off the water, hundreds of “extra” gallons of water were needlessly dumped into the home causing more damage. Don’t let this happen to you, here is the simple & free solution:
1. Learn where the whole house water shut off valve is located!! (DO THAT TODAY)
2. Be sure the shut off valve is working. (If it seems stuck, be careful you may need a plumber to get it working again)
3. Label the shut off valve with one of our free valve tags. (Now anyone who can read knows what that valve is for)
4. Show & teach everyone in the house where the shut off valve is and how and when to use it. (Tell teenagers it’s not a toy)
That’s all it takes to prevent this sad story from happening to you…
